Texana Olive Ranch Inaugural Olive Harvest Kick-Off Tour
Have you ever wondered what was going on just east of the La Salle County Safety Rest Area near Artesia Wells? Well, mark your calendars for Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. to come check it out for yourself. The La Salle County Soil and Water Conservation District is teaming up with Texana Olive Ranch for the ranch’s Inaugural Olive Harvest Kick-Off and Tour.
The day’s events will include a tour of the orchard, a demonstration of the machine used to harvest the olives, and an opportunity for tasting. There will be several educational stops along the tour for hearing the experts discuss a variety of topics, such as: Soil Health & the Use of Cover Crops in the Orchard, Micro-Irrigation & Irrigation Management, Varieties, Disease & Weed Control, USDA-NRCS Conservation Programs, and Marketing.
Anyone interested in olive production or just curious is invited to attend. The event is free of charge. 1 CEU (General) will be offered for licensed pesticide applicators. Co-sponsors are Texas Agri-Life, Capital Farm Credit, and Frost National Bank.
